Adidas believes that creators, just like athletes, need an environment that inspires their employees to perform and believe that through sport, we have the power to change lives. In August 2019, Adidas celebrated its 70th-anniversary company and the opening of the new Arena building at the “World of Sports” complex in Herzogenaurach, Germany.
Working in collaboration with the Adidas team, EXOS and architects, a brief was developed to create a holistic training experience from reception right through to the gym. Bridging the gap between EXOS (Adidas’ performance coaching partner) and Architectural team, BLK BOX demonstrated their unique ability to translate and articulate the athletic requirements of coaches into a detailed product specification, satisfying both the design requirements and stringent environmental criteria.
BLK BOX supplied and installed over 20,000sq ft of various flooring solutions across eight different locations. With a holistic training experience in mind, the design brief called for a seamless flooring solution throughout the entire facility. This not only enhanced in the overall aesthetics of the project but also aided in future-proofing the environment and allowing the EXOS team to test and develop new training concepts. Each floor had a varying degree of density and thicknesses, ensuring it was fit for purpose, whilst overcoming obstacles such as damaged sub flooring and underfloor heating. The flooring was also required to be acoustically sensitive and include provisions for specialist equipment such as power, tracking for airlines and the housing of pneumatic compressors.
The BLK BOX team provided end-to-end project management and fast delivery under extremely tight deadlines, whilst meeting strict EU standards and Adidas’ Environmental Regulations. BLK BOX sent their specialist installation team to live on campus for four weeks throughout the project, completing the installation a day ahead of schedule.
