Frequently Asked Questions

What are turf and track surfaces used for?

Turf and track flooring are designed for speed, agility, and conditioning work. Common uses include:

  • Sled training and sprinting – High-durability surfaces withstand repeated use.
  • Functional and conditioning exercises – Provides stability and grip for diverse workouts.
  • Multi-use gym spaces – Seamlessly integrates with other flooring types for a professional finish.

What is specialist flooring?

Specialist flooring includes tailored solutions for specific training environments, such as:

  • Athletic tracks with optimised shock absorption for sprinting.
  • Studio flooring with cushioned support for group fitness classes.
  • Acoustic flooring to reduce impact noise in weightlifting and functional training zones.

What is performance flooring in gyms?

Performance gym flooring is designed to enhance athletic output by providing the right balance of shock absorption, energy return, and stability. Performance flooring is commonly used in strength & conditioning gyms, functional fitness spaces, and high-performance training environments.

How do I choose the right flooring for my gym?

Selecting the right flooring depends on your facility’s needs, training styles, and subfloor requirements. Check out our Gym Flooring Buying Guide for expert recommendations on choosing the best option for your space.

What types of flooring are available?

BLK BOX offers a wide range of flooring solutions to suit different training styles and facility needs, including:

  • Gym Tiles – Durable, modular, and impact-resistant for strength zones.
  • Rolled Flooring – Seamless, high-performance flooring for large training areas.
  • Turf and Track – Designed for sled work, agility drills, and sprinting.
  • Platforms – Built to protect floors and equipment in weightlifting zones.
  • Specialist Flooring – Solutions for running tracks, studios, and acoustic performance.

Which turf should I choose for indoor sled training?

For indoor sled training, choose a dense gym turf or track designed for repeated sled push and pull work. BLK BOX Turf & Track products are intended for sled work, agility drills and sprinting; pair the surface with a sliding sled rather than running the sled directly on rubber flooring.

How long and wide should my gym sled track be?

A 10–15m clear, straight path is the current BLK BOX recommendation for sled workouts. The final track width should suit the sled, athlete and adjacent circulation, so plan the whole working lane rather than using the sled width alone.

Can I install a sled track over my existing floor?

It may be possible to install turf over an existing floor, but the correct method depends on the subfloor, levels, moisture condition and intended use. For a permanent sled track, have the existing floor assessed and confirm whether preparation, bonding or transition details are required before installation.

How do I clean and maintain gym turf?

Vacuum gym turf regularly to remove dust and debris, then spot-clean marks as needed. Avoid allowing loose grit to build up in a sled lane because it affects both cleanliness and the consistency of the sliding surface.

Which sled runners are suitable for this turf surface?

Use sleds intended for turf or synthetic grass. Turf is the preferred surface for sliding sleds, while rubber flooring should be avoided as the higher friction would damage both the sled and the floor.

Does the turf need adhesive and what preparation is required?

BLK BOX Agility Turf uses STK300 adhesive and should be installed onto a suitable prepared subfloor. One tub covers approximately 40m², with the surface level and ready for bonding before installation.

Can the track be cut to fit an irregular training area?

Custom turf can be specified for a project, so an irregular training area can be reviewed as part of the flooring layout. Provide the room dimensions and obstacles before ordering so cuts, joins and transitions can be planned rather than trimming a finished lane without a layout.

Can I add lane markings, distance markers or a gym logo?

Yes. Performance flooring and turf can be customised with floor logos and markings, making it possible to add lanes, distance markers or facility branding to a sled or sprint track.

Does the quoted turf price include installation and edging?

The turf material price does not include subfloor preparation, edging or installation. For a complete budget, quote the turf, required preparation, adhesive or fixing method where applicable, transitions, delivery and installation as separate project requirements.

Is this turf suitable for the indoor or outdoor setting I have?

Use the product specification for the actual setting. Turf designed for indoor performance flooring should not automatically be treated as an outdoor surface. If the area is exposed to rain, UV or temperature changes, check that the selected product is specified for those conditions before ordering.

Can damaged sections of the track be replaced individually?

Repairability depends on the damaged area, roll layout and installation method, so assess the affected section first and check the available roll lengths required, or reach out to us directly to enquire about the replacement track required.

How is the turf supplied and what access is needed for delivery?

Turf is supplied as a flooring product rather than assembled gym equipment, so confirm roll or section size and delivery access for the selected product. Large projects should account for loading access, internal routes and the area needed to stage material before fitting.
