BLK BOX specialty bars are engineered for athletes who refuse to let plateaus or joint discomfort dictate their progress.
Speciality Weights Barbells for Home and Commercial Gyms
Speciality barbells are built for training specific areas of the body and improving particular movement patterns, rather than serving as a general-purpose bar. Our range includes the Safety Squat Barbell, Hex Barbell, Swiss Barbell, Open Hex Barbell and Curl Barbell, alongside our standard weightlifting barbells.
The Safety Squat Barbell lowers the centre of gravity slightly, helping stabilise the lift and giving more control when squatting, while its handles reduce strain on the wrists compared to a traditional straight bar. Padded shoulder pads add comfort when squatting with heavier loads.
Hex bars, also known as trap bars, suit deadlifts, farmers walks and shrugs, and are a useful option for beginners or athletes managing back issues, since the load path sits closer to the body's centre of mass than a conventional deadlift. The Swiss Barbell targets specific muscles across exercises like overhead press and hammer curls, with multiple handle positions for varying grip.
What is the difference between Olympic, powerlifting, and standard barbells?
Olympic barbells (20kg men’s, 15kg women’s) have rotating sleeves with bearings or bushings for dynamic movements like snatches and cleans.
Powerlifting barbells are stiffer, feature aggressive knurling, and have minimal sleeve rotation for controlled lifts like squats, bench presses, and deadlifts.
Standard barbells (often non-Olympic) have different sleeve sizes and are less common in professional gyms.
How do I maintain and clean my barbell?
Regularly brush the knurling with a stainless steel brush, wipe down the shaft with a light coat of oil, and store your bar in a dry environment to prevent corrosion.
What is the difference between a 20kg and a 15kg barbell?
The 20kg barbell is thicker (28-29mm shaft) and designed for heavier loads, while the 15kg barbell has a thinner shaft (25mm) for better grip, particularly for Olympic weightlifting.
