Inside the Build: Thirdway
Thirdway has spent nearly two decades demonstrating how better workplaces can support better business. Its new headquarters at 224 St John Street in Clerkenwell brings that philosophy to life, combining thoughtful design, hospitality-inspired interiors and dedicated wellbeing facilities across five floors.
Located at the rear of the ground floor, the fully equipped gym gives employees a dedicated space to train before, during or after the working day. Positioned close to high-quality changing facilities, it forms an integral part of the headquarters rather than an afterthought.
The Brief
Employee experience was the driving force behind the design of Thirdway’s new home.
The gym needed to reflect the same standard as the wider workplace: premium, considered and designed to make effective use of the available space. It also had to support a broad range of training styles, from independent strength and conditioning sessions to instructor-led classes held before and after work.
The Solution
The facility combines versatile training stations, integrated storage and carefully selected equipment within a compact footprint.
BLK BOX 3 Series Nexus Compact Racks form the foundation of the gym. Their space-efficient design provides dedicated stations for squatting, pressing, pull-ups and cable exercises without overwhelming the room.
Each rack can be used with a range of equipment, including the Belfast Bar, Ladies Belfast Bar, Curl Bar, Utility Bumper Plates, Utility Change Plates and the 3 Series Dip Station. A wall-mounted double wall ball target adds another functional training option while keeping the floor clear.
BLK BOX Basecamp provides an organised storage solution for dumbbells, kettlebells, wall balls, power bands and other training accessories. Additional wall-mounted storage keeps barbells, bands and exercise mats easily accessible, helping the gym remain tidy and ready for both individual workouts and group classes.
A Selectorised Leg Extension and Curl machine introduces focused lower-body training, while 5 Series Adjustable Benches expand the strength exercises available. Soft 3-in-1 Plyo Boxes, exercise mats and an eight-digit timer further support the structured classes taking place before and after the working day.
Designed Around the User
The gym follows the same design thinking found throughout Thirdway’s headquarters. Every element has a clear purpose, with efficient storage, intuitive equipment and a flexible layout that allows the space to transition between independent training and instructor-led classes.
The Result
Thirdway’s headquarters demonstrates how workplace wellbeing can be embedded into the fabric of a building.
The gym complements the social spaces, considered interiors and strong sense of identity found throughout 224 St John Street. More than an employee benefit, it is an active part of daily life at Thirdway, creating regular opportunities for employees to move, train and connect.
Compact, versatile and fully equipped, the facility provides a high-quality training environment capable of supporting everything from individual strength sessions to group classes before and after work.
