SPEAK TO THE TEAM

The Brief

CrossFit Twenty Three approached us to rework and expand their London facility, transforming a 5500 sqft footprint into a more complete training environment. The ambition was to go beyond a traditional CrossFit box and create a space that supports both performance and lifestyle.

The brief called for a larger, more functional class floor, alongside the introduction of 'The Workshop', a dedicated open gym area designed for individual training. Alongside this, the space needed to incorporate premium changing facilities, as well as a member area that could act as a social and recovery hub, complete with a coffee point and retail.

At its core, the challenge was balance. Retaining the raw, community driven feel that defines CrossFit, while elevating the overall experience to meet the expectations of a more premium, modern fitness environment.

The Build

The design direction focused on creating a cleaner, more intentional take on the traditional industrial CrossFit aesthetic. Material choices were elevated, lighting was integrated throughout, and the layout was carefully considered to improve flow, visibility, and coaching presence across the gym floor.

Working closely with Scutts Renovations, the concept was delivered with a strong focus on durability and detail. Every element, from structural work through to finishing touches, was built to handle high volume use while maintaining a consistent, premium feel.

The training space was equipped to support the full scope of functional fitness. A mix of Technique and Belfast Bars, Hex Dumbbells, Wall Balls, Utility Bumper Plates, Benches, Climbing Ropes, Gymnastic Rings and Cast Iron Kettlebells provides versatility across all training styles. Key pieces such as the Glute Ham Developer, Soft Plyo Boxes and Competition Sleds work add further depth.

The 5 Series 12 bay Rig and Nexus Compact Rack anchor the main floor, allowing for efficient group training at scale. Supporting features including Basecamp Storage and a Mobile Bumper Tower ensure the space remains organised and easy to navigate, even during peak sessions.

The Result

The finished space delivers on both sides of the brief. It retains the energy, grit and community feel expected from a CrossFit gym, while introducing a more refined and considered environment.

This is not a reinvention of CrossFit. It is an evolution of the space it lives in. A facility that feels just as intense, but far more intentional in how it supports the athlete experience.

Chris Hull, Business Development Manager, who played a key role in the project, said: “CrossFit is built on raw, functional training and strong community. This project was about keeping that intact while refining the environment to create a more considered, premium athlete experience.”
