University of East London

After a comprehensive tender process, BLK BOX were thrilled to have been selected to refurbish the elite strength and conditioning suite in University of East London. With a reputation that precedes them, The University of East London is now regarded as one of the top Universities for sports in the UK and are currently supporting over 180 athletes during their reduced schedule due to Covid19, of which over 50% are professional or national level within their sport.

The University has propelled itself to the forefront of University Sport with an extensive array of alumni and current students who have progressed to become professional athletes and compete on the international stage. Recent students have included European Cruiserweight boxing champion Lawrence Okolie, world-class swimmer Aimee Willmott and Adam Gemili who won gold in the 4 x 100m relay at the 2017 World Championships.

The newly refurbed facility was designed specifically with high performing, elite athletes in mind, with memberships available only to student athletes or professional athletes. Those from all sporting backgrounds will be training in Aqua Gym, from professional footballers, to boxers, rowers, swimmers, and basketball players. They also have partnerships with London Lions Professional Basketball team, West Ham Football Club Ladies Academy and a number of high profile boxers from within the east London area that are using the facility on a weekly bases.

The 1,400 sq ft gym was refurbed to include Armour Gym Tile flooring and Agility Turf, four Goliath Half Racks with attachments including jammer arms, spotting arms, utility pegs and dumbbell storage shelves. It was important that the gym was highly functional for elite training, but also looked professional and matched the branding of Aqua Gym, so all of the Goliath racks were laser cut to display the University of East London name and logo on the brand plates, and all racks were colour matched to the same colour that is used in their branding.

Other students who have gone on to become world class athletes include John Amaechi (Basketball), Graham Gooch (cricket), Tessa Sanderson CBE (Athletics), Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson (Paralympic Athletics), Sir Geoff Hurst and Hope Powell (England Football), so we are delighted to be able to provide athletes of the future with a top class training facility.
