University of Stirling
The University of Stirling was recently awarded as the UK’s Sports University of the Year, in recognition of its world-class facilities and excellence across sports performance, research and education. We are proud to have provided equipment and helped to transform their high performance strength and conditioning suite. Their £21m sports facility redevelopment project has helped to create two elite spaces, one open open to over 6,000 members, consisting of students, staff, the local community and the second for high performing athletes across a range of sports including football, tennis, rugby, golf, triathlon, curling and swimming to name a few.
The University of Stirling has a history of being a top performing sports University and has produced some of the finest British and Scottish talent who have successfully competed at the Olympic Games, the Commonwealth Games and the Walker Cup.
BLK BOX installed a temporary facility for University of Stirling 2 years ago as their original gym was outdated and in need of an update. For the new facility, BLK BOX helped right from the design stage of the project, providing CAD drawings with various layout and design options to suit their space.
It was crucial that the design was highly functional, allowing members to lift in different areas and made the most of the space available. The layout of the building was quite narrow, so it was important to select equipment that was highly functional leaving ample floor space too. Previously, their facility was quite limited with rigs and racks, so BLK BOX installed 6 Samson Full Racks in the centre of the facility, creating a striking feature and providing a versatile training space.
The Goliath Wall Mounted 3 Bay Monkey Bar Rig adds another area for strength training and lifting, something that was lacking in the previous facility. There were also a range of attachments included which can be used on the rigs and racks for additional functionality, including rig mounted landmines, dip stations, safety arms and safety straps. A high performance facility is not complete without storage so the BLK BOX Basecamp Storage Rack was included for HD Bumpers and Urethane Kettlebells and the BLK BOX 3 Tier Dumbbell Rack was included to store BLK BOX Urethane Dumbbells.

The new facility officially opened on 16th November 2020 and unfortunately had to close again just 5 days later due to COVID-19. It’s been a long wait, but we are thrilled for the University of Stirling who are opening again on April 26th. During lockdown the high-performance suite remained open, allowing top performing athletes to continue their training, which has resulted in many qualifying for the Olympics and setting Scottish records. We wish them the best of luck in the Olympics and hope the athletes add to their existing 15 Olympic and 4 Paralympic medals.
