Inside the Build: The Grounding at Mason and Fifth

The Grounding is a dedicated wellness space inside Mason and Fifth in Westbourne Park, created to offer a calm and refined setting for both training and recovery.

Designed with intention, it brings together functional strength, restorative movement and a soothing aesthetic that supports a balanced approach to wellbeing. With natural light, timber accents and earthy tones, the studio encourages guests to step away from the noise of daily life, reconnect with mind and body, and find their grounding.

The Vision

BLK BOX was tasked with designing a gym that reflects strength and wellness in equal measure. The brief called for a space that feels calm, welcoming and beautifully refined. This was not to be the loud, high intensity environment often associated with fitness. Instead, the aim was to deliver a place where performance meets recovery, where premium design sits alongside purposeful training, and where both seasoned athletes and total beginners feel at home.

A muted palette of natural tones set the foundation for the space. Every decision was made to avoid visual noise or distraction. The layout encourages movement without clutter, with equipment positioned to support strength work, mobility and small group training, while keeping the floor open and intuitive.

The Build

The Grounding sits within Mason and Fifth as part of a broader wellness destination. The gym forms part of a wider offering that includes a class studio, pool, sauna, steam rooms and treatment suites, supporting a fully rounded approach to health and recovery.

BLK BOX engineered and manufactured a suite of bespoke, colour matched equipment that blends seamlessly into the surrounding architecture. Every element was designed to enhance performance while maintaining the calm visual language of the space.

The Result

The finished space achieves a seamless balance between strength training and refined wellness. Strength, recovery and movement coexist without compromise, creating an environment that feels calm yet fully capable.

Every detail has been chosen to fit naturally within the wider Mason and Fifth experience, ensuring the gym reflects the same clear, considered design seen across the building. The Grounding now stands as a natural extension of the brand’s wellness ethos. Purposeful, restorative and grounded.

Chris Hull, BLK BOX Business Development Manager, who was instrumental in bringing this facility to life said: "We wanted to prove that a performance space does not have to be loud or intimidating. The Grounding shows how strength, recovery and clarity of design can work together in a really natural way."
