The Road to ATHX Dublin

Strength, Fitness, and the Road to ATHX Dublin

When Sean Shuttleworth and Conleth Morgan line up at ATHX Dublin, they’ll be flying the flag for Belfast. Training partners at Berserk, they’ve put in plenty of hours on the gym floor, and now they’re ready to see how that work translates into competition.

Sean, 29, knows all about sport. A rugby background cut short by injury led him towards other outlets: HYROX, marathons, triathlons. “I’ve wanted to give ATHX a go for a while,” he says. “When tickets came up and with Dublin only down the road, it just made sense.”

Conleth, 34, spent years as a Gaelic footballer before hamstring injuries forced him to hang up the boots. Always a gym-goer to support his playing days, he moved into CrossFit and then added HYROX to the mix.

“Doing both gave me a good balance of strength and conditioning week to week,” he explains. For him, ATHX has been on the radar for a while. “I love to shift weights but functional fitness is just as important. ATHX looks like something that brings the best of both, as well as being a well-rounded challenge.”

Between them, endurance and metcon work are where they’ll back themselves. Their goal for Dublin is simple: push hard and see how far they can go.

And for anyone on the fence about signing up? The message is clear from Sean: just do it.

“I’d encourage anyone of any age or ability to get involved. It’s a great way to challenge yourself, test yourself against others, and have a bit of fun doing it.”
