The UK Health & Fitness Market Report 2026 has officially launched, providing the clearest view yet of the sector’s scale, performance and direction.

Commissioned by ukactive, with analysis from Grant Thornton UK and support from Sport England and 4GLOBAL, the report brings together data from across the UK’s health and fitness market to create the most authoritative picture of the sector to date. As headline sponsor of the report, BLK BOX is proud to play a role in backing a piece of work that reflects both the progress the sector has made and the opportunity that still lies ahead.

The findings show a sector continuing to grow in both scale and relevance. Membership has risen to 12.2 million, total income has reached £6.5bn, and facilities recorded more than 679 million visits in 2025. Penetration now stands at 18.0%, with 5,842 clubs operating across the UK.

The report also highlights the wider impact of the sector, which is now generating £7.5bn in attributable social value through health and fitness.

For BLK BOX, the report reinforces what we are seeing across the market: demand is growing, expectations are rising, and the next phase is not just about more gyms, but better training environments. Spaces need to work harder, feel more intuitive, and support how people want to train today.

As the sector continues to evolve, we are proud to support a report that helps give it the clarity, evidence and momentum it needs.
